Morpho is the musical project of Kristyn Chapman, a Chicago-based guitarist and songwriter whose debut EP Morpho Season arrived in late 2024 via Hit the North Records.
The record quickly drew acclaim for its emotional depth and expressive guitar work, earning praise from The Chicago Tribune, Post-Trash, The Alternative, Merry-Go-Round Magazine, and more. It also landed on Spotify’s Best of Fresh Finds Rock 2024. The Alternative called it “a warm and lively show for indie rock’s next best thing.”
Morpho Season is a study in contrasts — lush and raw, grounded and dreamlike. Written and recorded between Chicago and Kristyn’s hometown of Wichita, Kansas, the EP explores identity, endings, and the tension of transformation. At its center is Chapman’s guitar playing — fluid, nuanced, and emotionally charged — creating arrangements that feel both expansive and intimate.
Since moving to Chicago in 2021, Chapman has become a fixture in the city’s music scene, performing with acts like Waltzer and Liska and collaborating with bassist Kelly Hannemann (Aunt Kelly) and drummer Sarah Weddle (bnny) to bring Morpho’s sound to life.
In 2025, Chapman joined Deep Sea Diver as a touring multi-instrumentalist, marking a new chapter in her career while continuing to perform and write as Morpho.
Morpho has emerged from her cocoon — and she’s just getting started.
